(Back from Elizabeth Nash)

1536. MEILIR [BOWEN of Lochmeyler line] (abt 1270-?)

He gave his name to the family estate, Lochmeyler or Meilir's Pool. From him the traditional pedigree goes back to Bleddyn ap Cynfyn, Prince of Powys, one of the two former regions in North Wales. He was killed in battle in 1075 only nine years after the Norman invasion and William the Conqueror's victory over the English in 1066. Soon those rival Welsh princes themselves fell to the Norman barons who began to establish themselves in large parts of Wales (Davies 102-08). Though Bleddyn was an historical figure, the pedigrees going back to earlier centuries are partly fictitious, and few documents can substantiate many of the generations. With the BOWEN pedigree, numerous generations are missing in the period between MEILIR and Bleddyn ap Cynfyn, according to the GG books (Gwaethvoed 42L 1649, Film 104350). Yet despite the lack of accurately detailed generations, the tradition of family descent from Bleddyn may be sound. Many LEIGHS also have a descent from Bleddyn ap Cynfyn through HUGH VAUGHAN of Golden Grove. See the PRICHARD link to be added
